Netflix is expanding its live content offerings to engage viewers who enjoy real-time entertainment. Recent additions include the Tyson vs. Paul boxing match, NFL games, and the latest “Tudum” fan event, which showcased upcoming Netflix TV shows.
Shelly Gillyard, Netflix’s Vice President of Series Marketing for the U.S. and Canada, told Reuters that this year’s Tudum was the first to be presented in a live format. Previous events focused on in-person fan activities.
The event’s name, “Tudum,” comes from the iconic sound that plays before every Netflix movie and series.
Netflix made sure to feature talent from around the world for this global fan event. Over 100 stars and creators appeared, with actor Sofia Carson, known for the thriller “Carry On,” hosting the show.
The first two Tudum events were held in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2020 and 2023. For 2025, Netflix moved the event to Los Angeles, California.
The 2020 Tudum in Brazil attracted 50,000 attendees over four days. After the pandemic, the 2023 event drew 35,000 people.
Gillyard said Netflix may host Tudum in other locations in the future. The company is less focused on the event’s location and more on making it accessible worldwide.
Netflix leveraged popular shows like “Squid Game,” “Stranger Things,” “Wednesday,” and “Emily in Paris,” along with a performance by Lady Gaga, to capture fan interest.
A major highlight was the announcement of premiere dates for the Emmy-winning series “Stranger Things.” The fifth and final season will be released in three parts: November 26, 2025; December 25, 2025; and the series finale on December 31, 2025.
