A new federal class action lawsuit alleges that Elon Musk’s political action committee, America PAC, did not pay registered swing state voters as promised during last year’s U.S. election. Voters were supposed to receive money for signing petitions or referring others, but many claim they were left unpaid.
America PAC backed Republican President Donald Trump against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. Ahead of the November vote, Musk’s PAC offered voters in seven key states $47, later increased to $100, for signing a petition supporting the U.S. Constitution. Voters were also promised payments for referring others who signed the petition.
Three plaintiffs from Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Georgia filed the lawsuit on May 8 in Philadelphia. They claim America PAC broke a contract by not paying the full amount promised. The suit aims to represent everyone who signed or referred others to sign the petition but did not receive full payment.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and the world’s richest person, has not responded to requests for comment.
Additionally, Musk’s PAC promised a daily giveaway of $1 million to a person who signed the petition supporting constitutional rights such as freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. Another class action lawsuit has labeled this giveaway a fraud.
