Mitsubishi Motors has teamed up with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, a subsidiary of Foxconn, to develop and supply an electric vehicle (EV) model, the companies announced on Wednesday.
According to Mitsubishi Motors, the new EV will be created by Foxtron and manufactured in Taiwan by Yulon, an automaker. The vehicle is expected to be introduced in the Oceania region in the second half of 2026.
Mitsubishi Motors confirmed that discussions will continue with Foxtron toward a final agreement. The company is scheduled to release its full-year financial results on Thursday.
Foxconn, which is best known for manufacturing Apple products, sees Japan as a key market for its EV expansion. Jun Seki, the Chief Strategy Officer for Foxconn’s EV division, stated at a seminar in Tokyo in April that the company is eager to form partnerships with Japanese automakers. This push comes as Chinese car manufacturers gain ground in markets such as Europe, Brazil, and Thailand.
At the same seminar, Seki mentioned that Foxconn was already working with Mitsubishi, though no additional details were provided at the time.
Mitsubishi Motors is part of the long-standing alliance between Nissan and French automaker Renault. Foxconn has also expressed interest in taking a stake in Nissan as part of its strategy to expand into the electric vehicle sector. Foxtron, Foxconn’s joint venture with Yulon, currently counts Yulon-owned Luxgen as its main client in Taiwan.
